Hi,
My name is Mia!

Literary Fiction, Horror, + Thriller

My writing blends literary fiction’s introspection with the momentum of thrillers and the haunting atmosphere of horror. If you’re drawn to character-driven narratives with a slow-burn sense of dread, welcome.

These are stories meant to get under your skin—in the best way.

About the Author

Mia Kathleen writes horror and thrillers rooted in the emotional landscapes we’re often told to hide. Born in Newport, Rhode Island and raised in Houston, she grew up devouring scary stories with her Nana—the only person in the family who shared her love for horror. Mia honors that bond through her pen name and through the stories she tells: lyrical, poetic, introspective narratives that center mental health, trauma, and the lived experiences of women—especially Black women—in America.

Drawing from her work as a therapist supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, Mia writes for readers who feel unseen, overwhelmed, or adrift in their own histories. Her novels explore power, privilege, and the shadows we carry, always with an undercurrent of hope. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, hanging out with her husband, watching a movie, or proudly racking up far too many Taco Bell points. She hopes her books offer connection to anyone who’s ever felt alone in their story—and remind them they never were.

Official Blurb: The Shape of Dying

Two weeks after her son's brutal death, Amelia is barely holding on. Jakob should still be here-still laughing, still living-but instead, every trace he left behind, from strewn socks to his favorite mug, reminds her of what she's lost.

Now hiding out at her sister's house, Amelia drifts through the days, trying to survive them one by one. But grief this deep refuses to stay buried, surfacing in every prayer, haunting every moment.

Detective Walter wants justice for Jakob and safety for the town, and for the mother left behind. Yet as he digs deeper, the lines between duty and obsession begin to blur, and the truth he uncovers grows more dangerous than anyone could have imagined.

And Jakob... his story unfolds through memories, a spiral of fear and suspicion revealing the secrets that will come to haunt them all.

Through Amelia's loss, Walter's search, and Jakob's voice, The Shape of Dying unravels how violence lingers long after it's over-and what it takes to finally let it go. In the end, grief is only the surface; what lies beneath is what they've all been running from.
